School Key Information
We are an independent, co-educational school for children with special educational needs, aged 5 to 16 years. We are based on the Devon/Cornwall border just outside of Whitstone, Holsworthy in a peaceful, countryside setting, and pride ourselves on the unique, enjoyable learning experience that we offer our students.
All the children and young people at Highgate Hill House School have additional and complex needs.
They may have a Statement of Educational Need (SEN) or an Education and Health Care Plan (EHCP), and their primary need will be Social, Emotional and Mental Health (previously BESD).
Our students are placed mainly in partnership with Devon and Cornwall Local Authorities and fee-paying parents, and we are within easy reach of Launceston, Holsworthy, Bude, Okehampton, Tavistock, Bodmin and the surrounding areas.
We welcome both full-time and part-time students on a day basis, and our DfE number is 878/6065.
Our school starts at 9am and finishes at 3pm. Our School Office is open from 8:30am to 4pm during term time.
Our Principal is Kerry Taylor.

School Meals
Mealtimes are a very important social and community part of our day, with children helping to prepare lunch and sharing what they've helped to prepare with their peers.
At Highgate Hill House School we believe that eating a healthy, balanced diet is important for everyone and that children in particular need to receive all of the necessary nutrients for growth and development. A healthy diet can stabilise energy, sharpen the mind and improve mood - allowing children to maximise their potential both inside and outside of school.
All students will receive a nutritious and well-balanced meal as part of their school day, which they eat together.
Does your child have special dietary requirements or food allergies?
Make sure you notify us in writing. Advise us which foods can be given as alternatives, e.g. gluten or dairy free, ones to be avoided and any triggers.
Our school menu is on a 4 week rota, with a meat and vegetarian option each day. We can cater for food allergies, intolerances, and aversions. Children can also choose to eat lunch in their classrooms if they prefer not to eat in front of others.
On each day there is the alternative of a sandwich or baguette. Please see menu choices for each week below:
