Children go all sheepish at Highgate Hill House School!

Pupils at Highgate Hill House School near Holsworthy, an independent co-educational school for children aged 5 to 16 years with special educational needs, enjoyed a visit from two bottle-fed lambs this week.

Travelling all the way from a farm in Chagford, the two spring lambs made the most of the sunshine and cuddles from the children who were delighted to help look after them for the day.

During their Practical Skills lessons, the children have been busy working on an animal area in the school grounds which housed the lambs for the day. Once complete, the area will eventually house a range of small pets that the children will help to care for.

Head-teacher at Highgate Hill House School, Vicky Skelton, said: “The visit from the lambs was such a treat for the children, especially being able to help bottle-feed them. Bringing pets and animals into school helps to build the children’s confidence, and gives us some great content for their project work. I must say a huge thank you to pupil Robbie and his Mum Kathryn who kindly arranged the visit”.

Founder and School Director, Sir Peter Birkett, added: “Our extensive school grounds mean that we can offer so many outdoor opportunities to our pupils. Once our animal area is complete, the children will benefit hugely from taking on some of the responsibility for caring for the animals. The life skills that our pupils learn here at Highgate Hill House School will ultimately help them to live more fulfilling lives”.
