School hosts school admissions event to help parents and carers of children with additional needs

Highgate Hill House School, an independent school for children with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs aged 5 to 16 years near Holsworthy, is holding a free to attend event in May, to help parents and carers of SEN children to navigate school admissions and the Educational Health Care Plan (EHCP) process.

The event, which will be held at the school on Thursday 18th May from 4-6pm, will offer attendees the opportunity to hear from guest speakers, speak with staff on a one-to-one basis to discuss individual circumstances plus ask any questions they may have to staff and visitors from other supporting organisations.

Highgate Hill House School Principal, Kerry Taylor said: “We frequently receive enquiries from people whose children are struggling in a mainstream setting, and they are just starting out on their educational support journey. At this stage, most people are unsure of the process, often bursting with questions and queries, but they don't know where to go next or who to ask. So we've decided to do something about it!”.

Talks at the event will cover how an EHCP could benefit your child, how to apply for one and what's involved, other support that may be available and how to challenge decisions about your child's educational support.

Principal Kerry added: “The event will be informal, and we welcome attendees from all areas. It's free to attend too, we simply ask that attendees book their seat in advance via Eventbrite. More details of which can be found on the school website at www.hhhschool.co.uk”.
