A very special SEN Christmas production

The Grinch Christmas Production

Highgate Hill House School, a co-educational school for children with special educational needs aged 5 to 16 years, near Holsworthy, has just celebrated the end of the Autumn term with a showstopping performance of ‘The Grinch’.

Performed by children across the school, as well as acting out the story of how The Grinch stole Christmas, the afternoon performance also included a variety of solo and group vocal, instrumental and dance performances.

The Sports Hall was packed with parents, families and supporters of the school, all of them stunned by the bravery and determination displayed by the children throughout the show.

Vicky Percival, Head Teacher at Highgate Hill House School, said: “There was hardly a dry eye in the hall come the end of the production! We’d asked the children not to say too much at home about the parts and pieces they were playing so that it would be a wonderful surprise on the day for those who came along to watch. Children with various special educational needs came together on the day, despite their nerves, and put on a spectacular performance, gaining huge amounts of satisfaction along the way”.

Sir Peter Birkett, School Founder and Educational Consultant at p5e, said: “All of the children and staff were involved in the production in some way, whether that be acting, singing, playing an instrument or designing and creating pieces for the set. They’ve been working towards this finale for a couple of months now, practising and learning their lines. Some of them have even learnt to play an instrument specifically for the production. What a huge achievement – a fantastic way to finish 2018!”
